Machen Threatens Summer Closing, Stumbles While Backtracking

After tough-talking maverick Bernie Machen told reporters that it was possible that the University could be closed for business over the summer, he was forced to backtrack after it was determined that this option only made sense to crazy people.

I don't know what shutting down (for summer) means," said Matheny, a professor of political science. "I've been here 30 years and I can't imagine what that really means."

The Gainesville Sun did a decent job of detailing the impact a closing of the university would have on both the school and the community, something Machen didn't consider when he chimed in.

Someone needs to tell Machen that it's one thing to brainstorm ideas in private but something else to go public with the most harebrained of ideas. If all options are on the table, does that include returning some of that outrageous bonus money?
